ABC plans to continue its subtle reworking of Boston Legal (Sundays,
WKRN, Ch. 2, 9 p.m.) The network announced last week that Kerry
Washington, last seen doing exemplary work portraying Della Bea Robinson
in the film Ray would be appearing in a multi-episode arc beginning Feb.
20. She will play an associate at the law firm. That same evening
Freddie Prinze Jr. returns to show as Donny Crane, facing the man he
wrongly thought was his father for 25 years Denny Crane (William
Shatner).
-
Both moves are part of an effort initiated to remedy the substantial
audience loss that occurs following the end of Desperate Housewives on
ABC. Not even the accidental=9D manipulation of episode times that has
resulted in Desperate Housewives running long has prevented Boston Legal
from losing nearly 40 percent of the audience according to Zap 2 It.com.
-
"I think we need to make it a better show, and we have,"=9D ABC
Entertainment president Stephen McPherson said. "And I think we need to
make it more compatible with Desperate Housewives and that's what
(series creator David E. Kelley) is working on."
